Round-trip mileage: 5 miles
Difficulty: 1 ( 1=Easy,2=Moderate,3=Strenuous )
Description:
When I say easy, I mean it. Less than 300 feet between the low and the high elevations on this hike. The destination is a very swimmable lake.
Directions:
Take Hwy 88 to Caples Lake, about 60 miles from Jackson. You can get to Hwy 88 from Hwy 50 using either Hwy 89 near Lake Tahoe or Iron Mtn Rd by Sly Park Reservoir in Pollock Pines, or Hwy 49 from Placerville. You could also take Hwy 88 from Stockton.
Once you get to Caples Lake, use the bathrooms as there aren't any at the trailhead. Now backtrack towards Kirkwood about 1/4 mile. The parking is on the North side of Hwy 88. There is not a lot of room for parking. Some people just park at Caples and walk back. |
