CATARACT FALLS

Difficulty: 2 ( 1=Easy,2=Moderate,3=Strenuous )
Description:
Like Carson Falls, this one can be rated easy or moderate. It just deoends on how far up the falls you go. This waterfall is a series of cataracts on Cataract Creek that brings water into Alpine Lake. It can be hiked from the top down from the Mount Tamalpias trailhead or bottom up from the Alpine Lake trailhead.

Thsi waterfall(s) is best in late winter and early spring and will not be so spectacular as the year goes on.
Directions:
From Hwy 1 in Marin County, take Sir Francis Drake Blvd west (signed for San Anselmo). Drive 6 miles to Fairfax. Turn left on Pacheco and immediately right on Broadway. Drive one block and turn left on Bolinas Rd. Drive 3.8 miles on Bolinas Rd to trailhead parking lot on left for Carson Falls. Continue about 4 mor emiles and cross the dam for Alpine Lake. About .1 mile further is a hairpin turn. Thsi is the trailhead and the parking is very limited along both sides of the road.

You can also take the Hwy 1 exit from Hwy 101 and follow it about 3 miles and turn right on the Panoramic Hwy. After about 5.2 miles, turn right on Pantoll Rd. After 1.4 miles turn left on West Ridgecrest Rd. Take this for 1.6 miles to a small parking area on the right. Now take then trail marked "Laurel Dell"
