From Placerville, drive east 36 miles on Hwy 50 and make a left turn on Wright's Lake Rd. From Lake Tahoe, drive west on Hwy 50 to Echo Summit. Continue 8 miles and turn right on Wright's Lake Rd.
Wilderness permits are needed to hike in this area. Day users can usually get them at the Wright's Lake trailheads. Overnighters must get them elsewhere.
When you reach Wright's Lake, turn left just past the kiosk and continue around the lake to Dark Lake. The jeep trail starts shortly after that.
