This 8 mile hike into the Granite Chief Wilderness Area from the Five Lakes trailhead gives access to the lakes (never found all 5) and the Pacific Crest Trail. This a popular trail for day hikers going to the lakes. Not many venture past that point. Their loss.

| From Truckee, head south east on Hwy 89. From Lake Tahoe, head north west on Hwy 89. Take the Alpine Meadows turn off. Drive 2.1 miles up Alpine Meadows Rd. to the trailhead on the right with Deer Park Dr. Park on either side of the road. |
